All players are to have their uniform shirt tucked in while playing and during warm-ups. The uniform shirt is a club shirt and no names or other changes may be done to the shirt. No special warm up jackets or outfits may be used by a team to make that team look different from any other AVBA -AAU team. AVBA is a club and all teams in AVBA are treated the same and should look the same. The only jacket or sweatshirt allowed is the AVBA logo clothing that is sanctioned by AVBA.
TournamentsIt is up to the coaches, players, and parents to decide which tournaments the team would like to participate in during the season. Some tournaments fill up fast so make sure you sign up early. To save time, the coach or team parent can mail in the check for the entry fee and then AVBA will reimburse that person. Include the AVBA entry form and AAU entry form with your check when you mail in your team entry. Just calling someone does not guarantee you a spot in the tournament. They need to receive your check to guarantee your entry. Keep an accurate record of where your team will be playing and forward that information to Wayne Rude. When a team qualifies for the Gold Tournament, it is the responsibility of each individual coach to send team entry form and fee to the specific Gold Tournament Director for their specific grade division. Gold tournament deadline date for forms and fee is March 21, 2008. All forms and fees MUST be in Gold Tournament Directors possession on or before March 21, 2008.
Car PoolingIt is recommended that parents and coaches car pool to tournaments. A good place to park and meet is the parking lot by the fire department. Don’t meet at the schools because leaving vehicles there will take away parking if AVBA is hosting a tournament that day.
Hosting TournamentsHosting tournaments is one of the ways that AVBA raises enough money to support our club. All parents will need to help out in setting up the gyms for the tournament, working the concession stand, helping to monitor the school during the tournament, and then cleaning up when finished.
Playing Time for Team MembersEach team should consist of 8 to 10 players. Having more than 10 players on a team makes it very difficult to get some playing time for everyone. All players are guaranteed equal time during practice to learn the sport of volleyball. The effort the players demonstrated during practice and the skills they learn will help determine how much playing time they have during tournaments. The goal of AVBA is to provide each participant as much playing time as possible during tournaments, but there are no guarantees. Coaches need to be a fair as possible. Winning tournaments is not the most important thing. Teaching all of your players how to play the game and to play as a team is the most import task. Remember they are still kids and winning is good but not the top priority.
